So proud!

I am so proud with myself right now! I really can't talk too highly about Craftsy classes, not only have I cracked foundation piecing (see last post), but thanks to Leah Day I'm now tackling free motion quilting on my little old machine, and I'm so happy to share my first go at paisley. There will be lots more to follow.

A sneak peak

I've been working on this quilt for a while, and now I've completed the top I couldn't resist sharing it! Yet again I've used a John Louden range of fabrics, together with a white Kona Solid to make a simple but effect block, which is linked nicely with white sashing. It has turned out bigger than planned... Can't wait to quilt this beast! :) my plan is to have this as a downloadable pattern, once I've written it up, the first of many hopefully.

I've also discovered a new block, I know I'm probably way behind everyone else here, but recently I've been cutting charm packs in the shop and a customer told me about the disappearing four-patch. Now I've heard about the disappearing nine-patch, which I will do one day, but I loved the idea of the four-patch, so I've had a go.... Once you get the trick of pressing your seams in opposite directions, so they lock into each other, it's a piece of cake!

Foundation piecing cracked at last

I am really enjoying my membership to Craftsy at the moment, and have finally cracked foundation piecing with the help of Carol Doak's fantastic class. I did find the folding, cutting and pressing a little labouring at first, but after seeing the results, I can appreciate the length of time it takes to finish a block. So on goes my latest Audible book - a Jack Ryan thriller - and away we go!

This block is called Mariner's Delight Compass Star, and is constructed in eight separate sections, then sewing together along the diagonals to make four quarters which are then sewn to create the one block. And I just had to use some of my gorgeous feed sack fabrics on white!

Now where to next is the question... Definitely a stash buster project I think! And maybe an attempt at designing my own foundation designs.
